The Mercedes GLC is the successor to the previous SUV model GLK. It was launched in 2015 as a 2016 model year and is a competitor to, among others, the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 as well as several other car models in lower price ranges. The German premium brands launched several crossover models in the 2010s as the trend grew stronger, largely because the previous popularity of SUVs was decreasing in line with rising fuel prices. The previous model, GLK, was characterized by an angular design while the GLC received a more streamlined, rounder design that appealed to more people - the GLC raised Mercedes' sales figures significantly in the class. The GLC is also larger than its predecessor with an eleven centimeter longer wheelbase, which provides better space for mainly rear seat passengers but also some extra cargo capacity. It is a car that can be configured in very different ways and therefore the price levels also vary greatly. In typical German fashion, the basic version is relatively basic, while the larger equipment packages offer many more functions and comfort, and the model is also available in a maximally equipped AMG version. The most common engine choices on the Swedish market are 2-liter engines, either diesel or gasoline-powered, both with turbocharging. The GLC-class, unlike its predecessor, is available as a so-called "hatchback" - in short, a smaller station wagon, and as a coupe with two doors, the latter of which is far rarer on the Swedish used market.
