Long before the passenger cars were launched outside Japan, Honda also participated in Formula 1 racing with names like Richie Ginther behind the wheel and enjoyed great success during the 1960s. The 2009 financial crisis hit Honda's sales hard, which caused the brand to withdraw from Formula 1 and let racing lie dormant for several years until but made a comeback in 2017. Honda has also made a name for itself as one of the first car manufacturers to produce hybrids and well-known models include the coupe model CR-Z and the Honda Insight, which was launched in a hybrid version in 1999 on the American market, around the same time as the Toyota Prius , which is the main competitor that has sold many times more copies. However, the Hyundai Insight in hybrid version can boast the world's lowest fuel consumption in a mass-produced car at launch, and most of the brand's models have received good reviews over the years for their low fuel consumption.
