1995 was the year when the Volvo S40 first came on the market and was a collaboration with the Japanese Mitsubishi with their model Carisma. The Volvo S40 is a clear successor to the previous Volvo 440/460 series and also had a station wagon version that went under the name Volvo V40. It took a few years until the second generation was launched when the new Volvo S40 and the station wagon model that goes under the name V50 were launched on the market in 2003. As is usually the case, the model also received a minor modification where the biggest change would be a new front with an air intake. But the biggest change would come on the third generation of the Volvo S40 when it goes under the name Volvo V40 and is a mix between the previous S40 and V50 and is now a hatchback. The latest generation has a few different equipment levels including Momentum with a focus on safety and comfort and Summun which has extra options and last but not least R-Design for those who want a sportier and more dynamic alternative. Engine options include the D2 diesel engine, which is classified as an environmentally friendly car, and a larger T5 gasoline engine with 245 horsepower.
