What was originally intended as a replacement for the aging Saab 900 would instead become the last passenger car that Saab produced. In 1998, the first models of the new Saab 9–3 model began to roll out of the factory in Trollhättan. The Saab 900, which had been produced for many years, felt outdated and the Saab 9–5 had been launched the year before. This led to the desire to create a car that was better suited to the development in the market. The model is available as a sedan, station wagon and convertible. Over the years, Saab has released different generations, including an ethanol-powered version called the Saab 9–3 BioPower. The first generation also had a terrible model called the Viggen with a 2.2 liter engine and around 230 horsepower under the hood. The Viggen, which was named after the Saab 37 Viggen fighter aircraft, was only available in 4400 copies and production ended in 2002. This was a more powerful version of the then Saab 93-Aero. Before Saab went bankrupt in 2011, Saab began producing the second generation, in 2013 they began to resume production of the Saab 9–3 under a new owner who was then NEVS. However, it was not long before they stopped producing the Saab 9–3 and the last car rolled out of the factory in Trollhättan in 2015. Despite the closure, the Saab 9–3 is still hot on the used market and you don't have to worry about spare parts as they are still being manufactured.
