The Peugeot 3008 is a crossover/SUV that has been on the European market since the 2008 model year, but in two different forms. The first generation was produced until 2016 and was awarded the title “Car of the Year 2010” by the British motoring magazine “What car?” with the justification that the 3008 was fun to drive and economical. There were several engine choices, and the smallest variant was a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with 130 horsepower and a CO2 emission of 123 grams per kilometer with the six-speed manual transmission. The model was also available with larger gasoline engines but also with an economical 1.6-liter diesel engine.
A little later in the life cycle, a hybrid powertrain (unusual in Scandinavian markets) was also introduced, with a 2-liter diesel engine and an auxiliary electric motor, and in 2012 it was the world's first hybrid car with a diesel engine. The second generation of the 3008 was launched in 2016 and was very different in appearance from its predecessor. The hybrid engine was gone (at first) and instead only the 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine was offered as the most cost-effective and environmentally conscious choice. This engine has 130 horsepower, which may sound a little for an SUV, but like many other car manufacturers, the cylinder capacity is now being reduced to get better fuel consumption and environmental performance.
The term "crossover" was also gone, and the Peugeot 3008 from the 2016 model year is an SUV with high ground clearance and larger interior and exterior dimensions. Also new for the model was Peugeot's so-called "i-cockpit", a layout inspired by an aircraft cockpit with an almost oval steering wheel and framed driver's environment, as well as high-mounted instrument panels. A design approach that some Citroën models have also adopted. In 2019, the Peugeot 3008 came as a plug-in hybrid (the definition of a plug-in hybrid is that it can be driven only on electricity by charging the battery while having a combustion engine with either gasoline or diesel, of which gasoline is the most common).
