Mitsubishi Lancer is a model name that has been used on several car models since the early 1970s and the car model itself sometimes appears under several manufacturers. The first model was launched in 1973 and was a small sedan in the same size class as the Volkswagen Jetta at the time. It was also introduced on the North American market in the wake of the oil crisis and the skyrocketing gasoline prices, but then as Dodge and Plymouth because the Japanese car manufacturers were relatively unknown
outside the domestic market at this time. Since then, ten generations of Lancer have been manufactured, of which generations eight and nine are the most common on the roads in Sweden today. The eighth generation was sold in Sweden between 2007 and 2017 and was available as a station wagon, then called a sportback, and as a sedan. The most common engine option is a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with just over 140 horsepower connected to a manual gearbox. The tenth generation that came
out in 2017 never had a premiere in Sweden.
