The Mazda 2 is the brand's smallest small car and is comparable to the Nissan Micra and Suzuki Swift. Unlike these, the Mazda 2 does not have a very long history, but was first presented in the early 2000s with the first model year in 2002 (although the model officially had a predecessor in the form of the Mazda Demio, which was never sold in Sweden). The first generation was not sold in Sweden either, and it was not until the introduction of the second, in 2007, that Sweden got the Mazda 2 on the roads. The platform on which the car is based is used by both Mazda and Ford, which is why the model is closely related to Ford's Fiesta. Common in this generation is the smallest 1.3-liter gasoline engine connected to a manual gearbox.
The design was liked by motoring journalists and signed by the Japanese Ikuo Madea. The third generation Mazda 2 was introduced for the 2014 model year and had a more conventional exterior than its predecessor and at the same time more comfortable with a higher level of interior. The engines are exclusively gasoline-powered with 1.3- and 1.5-liter engines. The vast majority have manual transmissions and a few have been equipped with automatic transmissions.
