The Jaguar XJ is a large sedan in the same size class as the Cadillac Seville and Deville, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class depending on generation. It has long been Jaguar's flagship model and is available in several different configurations, of which the "Daimler" has been the most expensive model with the characteristic wooden trays in the rear seat. The first model was launched in 1968 and is called the "Series 1" and was available, like several of its successors, with either a six- or twelve-cylinder engine as an option from the 1972 model year onwards.
The legendary V12 is also shared with the iconic sports car XJS (which was later replaced by the more common XK today). Until the mid-2000s, Jaguar had its distinctive design with round headlights and a sloping hood, as well as many wood inserts and chrome details in the interior. The sequel Series 2, launched in 1973, was also configured in the same way and the car also grew slightly in terms of external dimensions. New for this generation was the introduction of a coupé with the aim of competing with the then popular Mercedes SLC (built on the two-seater convertible Mercedes SL). Only just over 10,000 cars were produced before the model was discontinued, but today they are considered attractive collector's cars, especially those that are original and not rust-repaired and/or repainted.
Previously, Jaguars, even in good condition, could change hands for remarkably low prices, but as vintage cars have generally enjoyed a revival and become interesting investment objects, older Jaguar cars have also become expensive. This also applies to the 3 Series from 1979-1992. The technology in these is more modern and the comfort is noticeably better than in its predecessors, but the classic and elegant design remains. The most expensive model is also in the third generation Daimler Double Six – V12 with all conceivable equipment. By 1986, the XJ changed shape radically and the classic features disappeared, but they quickly returned with the fifth generation launched in 1994 and the two subsequent generations also retained the external attributes with four headlights at the front and a cat-like shape. However, by 2010, a model was launched that looked completely different, larger and wider, with a sportier than classic interior.
