The Fiat 500 was first produced in 1957 and the first generation had produced nearly 4,000,000 units when it was discontinued and replaced in 1975. The whole basic idea of the model was to produce a compact car in the low-cost segment for the increasingly dense urban traffic in Southern Europe. Most people who have driven the original Fiat 500 can probably attest to its distinctive agility; straight sides, small external dimensions (in fact no more than just under three meters long) and good turning radius. In 2007, 50 years after the original model, it was time to revive the Fiat 500 in the footsteps of other successful retro models such as the Mini Cooper and the Volkswagen Beetle.
The Fiat 500 also has a stylish interior, strongly inspired by the 1950s, with, among other things, panels in the same color as the car. The exterior dimensions have grown since the 1950s and the new version is actually over half a meter longer, but both the rear seat and luggage volume have also grown significantly. The most common engine choices on the Swedish used market are petrol-powered, of which the four-cylinder 1.2-liter engine with 69 horsepower dominates. This engine appeared at the same time as the model debuted in 2007. Earlier in the car model's life cycle, there was also an even smaller variant available on the Swedish market - a two-cylinder engine with a cylinder capacity of under one liter. This was removed from the range before the update in 2016. In mixed driving, the Fiat 500 1.2 is reported to consume just under 0.5 liters per mile, and in city driving it consumes 0.62 and in highway driving 0.42 liters per mile. The gearbox is a five-speed manual gearbox and the lever is located just below the center of the panel instead of near the floor, a solution that the original model also had in the 1950s.
