The Audi R8 is one of the VAG Group's (Volkswagen Group's) absolute top numbers in the car fleet. It is a super sports car with a mid-mounted engine and the popular, permanent front-wheel drive known as Quattro in Audi parlance. The model was launched in 2006 after the Audi Le Mans concept that was presented a few years earlier. It is not always a concept that resembles the actual production car, but in the case of the Audi R8, the similarities are greater than the differences in terms of design. Like many other award-winning car designs throughout history, an Italian designer was at the drawing board – Walter De Silva. The R8 quickly became a success and was praised for its road holding and detail quality, like its "sibling" Lamborghini Gallardo (and later Hurracan) with which the car shares a platform and many components, including the V10 engine that powers the R8. The car is also available with a 4.2-liter V8 engine, coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission in the standard version, which is significantly more common in all markets (and has lower running costs for natural reasons). On the road, the car behaves smoothly but the external dimensions are not as small as one might think at first glance with a length of just over 4.3 meters. The first generation of the Audi R8 lasted almost ten years – from the 2006 model year to 2015. The second generation, from 2016, and onwards is a completely new car but the basic concept remains – sports to one hundred percent. It was presented a year after the more expensive Lamborghini Hurracan and received a more expensive price tag than its predecessor (inflation included) because the V8 engine was now discontinued in favor of only one engine choice – a V10 with either 540 or 610 horsepower.
