21 maj, 2025

With the right apps, a road trip can be both fun and convenient. In our top list you will find apps that make planning easier but also make the trip itself wonderful. After all, the journey is the goal, right?

In the top list you will find something for every category: route planning, overnight accommodation, entertainment, convenience, safety, and then a bonus for those of you with a rechargeable car. All apps are free and available for iOS and Android.

Top list of best apps

1. Google Maps

Besides the obvious (smooth navigation and helpful traffic information) , the app is perfect for planning events around your route. Where should we stay overnight? Which playgrounds can the kids run around in? Which attraction can't we miss? Set your route, search for activities along the route and save them as stops and you'll have the ultimate road trip.

Tip: We find it a bit easier to search for activities along the route in the desktop version. But save the route to your account and you can seamlessly adjust it on your phone, computer or tablet.

2. Campy

Are you looking for a place to pitch your caravan, a campsite to pitch your tent or a rest stop for a coffee break? With thousands of campsites in Scandinavia and the rest of Europe, you can easily find what suits you. Here you can create a trip with several campsites or discover and copy trips created by other members. You can also adjust your filters by proximity to water, city or forest. The app is available even if you don't have access to the Internet!

3. Bimi Boo - Coloring Book for Kids

Fun patterns, glittery pens and colorful jars. Yes, these are just some of the coloring techniques that the app offers and is perfect for entertaining little ones in the car. There are over 100 pictures to color. Some are free, but through purchase you can expand both pictures and coloring techniques.

The app is ad-free and free, but remember to set a passcode for purchases so there's no expensive surprise.

4. Flush Toilet Finder

Raise your hand if you've ever had an urgent need to go to the bathroom while driving. With this app, you can find many toilets near you, from rest areas along the road to the nearest cafe in a new city. The app has over 200,000 toilets and you can see directly in the app whether they are free, accessible to the disabled or require a password. The app also works offline!

5. SOS Alarm

During the holiday season, there are many people on the roads at the same time and the risk of accidents increases. With the touch of a button, you can contact SOS Alarm and they will also receive the coordinates of your position. You don't have to try to explain where you are and help can be sent faster. Many newer cars have a direct call button, but far from all cars are new. The app is of course also good to have on hand in other emergencies.

Bonus: ChargeFinder

Are you traveling by electric car? With Chargefinder it is easy to plan your charging stops for your route. You can filter by charging speed, free charging and type of charger, among other things. It is also easy to see the price and availability of the charging stations.
