Budget proposal for 2023 - summarized

This was presented in the Government's budget bill at the beginning of November. We have compiled information related to life with a car!

Summary of the 2023 budget bill

• The price of diesel and gasoline will be reduced by the equivalent of 1 krona per liter.

• The previous Government intended to increase the reduction obligation, which the Riksdag also agreed to. However, this increase has been paused for 2023, taking into account the high fuel prices. The Government instead intends to lower the reduction obligation to the EU's lowest level. However, this is not expected to come into force until 1 January 2024.

• The distance-based model for travel reimbursement, which according to a parliamentary decision earlier this year was to be introduced at the turn of the year, is now being stopped. Instead, the travel deduction will be retained in its current form. However, it is wanted that the flat rate amount deducted for costs of work trips using one's own car will be increased from SEK 18.50 per kilometre to SEK 25 per kilometre.

• The deduction for fuel for work trips with a company car is proposed to be increased to 12 SEK per kilometre. Today, you can deduct 6.50 SEK or 9.50 SEK per kilometre depending on the fuel. An exception will be made for fully electric company cars, where the current deduction of 9.50 SEK will continue to apply.

• The government also proposes that those who charge their car at work will not be taxed on benefits, this applies to both their own car and a company car. This is proposed to come into force on 1 July 2023 and apply to benefits provided after 30 June 2023.

Change that takes effect in 2022

The bonus part of the Bonus Malus system is being removed. From 8 November 2022, anyone who buys a new car with a low climate impact will no longer receive a bonus payment. However, this adjustment was outside the budget bill.
