Long-range electric cars – here are 10 affordable options

3 september, 2025

Do you dream of driving all the way to your destination without having to stop and charge? There are now plenty of electric car models on the used market that combine a solid range with a reasonable price tag. Here we have selected a few models that give you a lot of miles for your money.

Range is not a concept that petrol or diesel car drivers normally think much about. What matters is fuel consumption. The thirstier the car, the more frequent the refueling stops will be.

The same logic applies to electric cars. But here it is the size of the battery combined with the car's consumption that determines how far you get. The difference is that it is not primarily about the kroner that flows into the tank, but about how often you are forced to stand still at the charging station.

Up to 600 miles on a single charge

For those looking for a lot of range for their money , the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD is hard to beat. For around SEK 246,000, the model offers 602 kilometers on a single charge, making it one of the most cost-effective electric cars in its class. The Ford Mustang Mach-E Long Range RWD also reaches over 600 kilometers, and with a price of around SEK 291,000, it is a strong contender.

Up to 500 miles on a single charge

A particularly interesting alternative is the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S. Unlike the standard version of the ID.3, the Pro S has a significantly larger battery. This gives a full 552 kilometers of range and places the model in the top tier of the compact class. With an average used price of around 255,000 SEK, you get long-distance driving characteristics combined with the agility and easy-to-maneuver format of a small car.

The Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor, Skoda Enyaq iV 80 and Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD also offer ranges of over 500 kilometers, but at slightly higher prices. The Kia EV6 stands out with its 800-volt technology, which means that the charging stop is significantly faster than most competitors. The BMW i4 eDrive40 has both a long range and a premium feel. However, prices here start to approach SEK 400,000. The Mercedes-EQS 450+ is among the most far-reaching electric car models, with 719 kilometers on paper. But the price is high: over half a million SEK.

The approximate prices are calculated based on winning bids at auction at Kvdbil in 2025, which means that model year, mileage and equipment may vary between individual examples.

Take the reach figures with a pinch of salt

Range figures should still be interpreted with caution. Especially in Nordic winter climates, the actual range can be 20–30 percent lower than on paper. A car that is stated to be able to do 600 kilometers may end up around 450 kilometers in practice.

Choices that affect reach

The choice of drivetrain also has an impact. Many electric car models are available in both two- and four-wheel drive versions. Choosing four-wheel drive gives you better traction and often higher performance, but at the expense of higher consumption and thus shorter range.

Good to consider: The need for large batteries is reduced

At the same time, the trend in new cars is towards smaller and therefore cheaper batteries. With the rapidly growing network of fast chargers along the roads, long range is no longer the only important measure. In the future, charging speed may be the factor that primarily determines how smoothly the electric car functions in everyday life.
