Most personal number plates are found here

17 januari, 2024

Over 25,000 personal license plates are registered with the Swedish Transport Agency and you have the greatest chance of seeing one in Botkyrka municipality. This is shown by a compilation by car broker Kvdbil .

In the last five years, the number of personalized license plates has increased by 17 percent, and now amounts to just over 25,000. The greatest probability of encountering a car with a personalized number plate is in Botkyrka municipality, where there are a whopping 10.47 personalized plates per 1,000 cars. A few kilometers south we find Trosa, which boasts almost as many (10.40). In third place comes Bjuv in Skåne (10.02). The top 5 is then completed by Sotenäs in Bohuslän and Stockholm, with 9.52 and 9.48 plates per 1,000 cars respectively.

Pajala stands out

At the bottom of the list we mainly find municipalities in the northernmost parts of the country. The bottom position is held by Pajala with only 0.80 personalized number plates per 1,000 cars. This is followed by Malå (1.10), Vilhelmina (1.23) and Kiruna (1.25). Forshaga in Värmland (1.36) is also one of the municipalities where personalized number plates have not yet caught on.

When it comes to the total number of personal signs, it is not surprising that size matters. Stockholm clearly dominates with 3,277 registered signs, followed by Gothenburg and Malmö with 1,340 and 724 signs respectively.

- Interest in personalized license plates has grown steadily in recent years, and this phenomenon is particularly evident in metropolitan regions and densely populated municipalities, where car owners tend to focus more on personalizing their vehicles. The reasons can vary, from attracting attention to wanting to share one's interests or profession, says Daniel Odsberg, Sales Manager Kvdbil .
